DEMOREST, Ga. – After a brief weather delay turned into a beautiful evening in Demorest, Piedmont men’s soccer rallied past Toccoa Falls 2-1 Wednesday evening.

With the win, Piedmont Head Coach Jimmy Stephens now owns 200 on his career.

It was senior Delroy Mattis who played hero in helping Stephens reach the milestone, as the senior scored both Piedmont goals, including the game winner in the 84th minute.

It was a game of numerous chances for the Lions, but after Mattis scored the first of his two goals in the 14th minute, the Eagles held Piedmont off the scoreboard.

Then, TFC was able to strike and net the equalizer in the 78th minute.

However, Piedmont was undeterred, with Mattis putting away a perfectly placed cross from fellow senior Colin Vogel into the back of the net, sending the Lions to their second straight home victory.

Senior goalkeeper Bobby Wood was solid, making four saves while allowing just one goal for the second straight contest.

Up next, the Lions are back in action on Friday as they will resume their halted game with Warren Wilson from September 6. The game will resume at 4 p.m. with the score tied 3-3 early in the second half.

TURNING POINT:
– Mattis’ first career multi-goal effort proved to be the difference as his 84th minute game winner lifted the Lions to the 2-1 victory.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
– Mattis is now tied for second on the team with two goals, both coming tonight.

MILESTONE:
– Head Coach Jimmy Stephens now has 200 career wins with 157 of them coming at Piedmont.
