TIGER, Ga. — Rabun County High School will honor one of its former standout athletes this Friday night when the Wildcats retire Gunner Stockton’s No. 14 football jersey ahead of their homecoming game against Banks County.
The ceremony is set for 7 p.m., Sept. 19, just before kickoff at Frank Snyder Stadium. Stockton, now a redshirt junior quarterback at the University of Georgia, will return to his alma mater during the Bulldogs’ bye week.

“He’s very deserving,” Rabun County head coach Rance Gillespie told the Athens Banner-Herald. “He’s one of the most decorated quarterbacks in the state of Georgia as a high school player and his career is continuing on with the University of Georgia. We’re extremely proud of him, both for the accomplishments that he’s made and what he’s doing now.”
Stockton starred for Rabun County from 2018–2021, starting as a freshman and leading the Wildcats to a 46-7 record with three GHSA Elite Eight appearances and a 2020 Final Four run. His career stats remain among the best in state history:
His best season came in 2021, when he completed 236 of 331 passes for 4,134 yards, 55 touchdowns, and just one interception. That same year, in a game against Banks County, Stockton threw for 454 yards and six touchdowns — his best single-game performance.
Stockton’s legacy now comes full circle as the Wildcats (4-0) host Banks County (0-4) in a Region 8-A showdown.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., with the jersey retirement ceremony taking place during pregame festivities.
