Phenix City man charged with assault of his 95-year-old mother

A Phenix City man is charged with assaulting his 95-year-old mother according to a press release from the Lee County Sheriff’s Department. On November 23, 2025, at approximately 8:00 AM, a citizen contacted a Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol in the 9000 block of Lee Rd. 240 in the Phenix City area of Lee County in reference to his brother assaulting his mother.

In the vehicle with her son was his 95-year-old mother, who had two black eyes and Band-Aids on her arms and legs. When asked what happened, she stated that her other son struck her and that this was not the first time. The incident occurred at her residence located in the 100 block of Lee Road 498 in Phenix City, AL.

On November 25, 2025, Lee County Sheriff’s Investigators arrested John Earl Black (70) from Phenix City, AL, for Assault-Elderly Abuse in the 2nd Degree and transported him to the Lee County Detention Center. He is being held on a $30,000.00 bond.

Investigators were able to confirm that John Earl Black was arrested for the same charge where his mother was the victim in April of 2022. Court documents confirmed that he pled guilty to the charge in January of 2025 and was placed on probation for two years.
