CLARKESVILLE, Ga. — Work at Pitts Park is now complete, and the park is set to fully reopen Wednesday morning.
“They completed the paving at Pitt’s Park today (March 31), and the gates will be opened in the morning!” said Clarkesville Interim City Manager Julie Poole on Tuesday, March 31. “I know it has been a lengthy process for paving projects this year; we are so thankful it is all now completed.”
The paving marks the end of a lengthy construction project aimed at improving drainage and stabilizing the roadway inside the park.
Recurring flooding
If you’ve driven by Pitts Park in recent weeks, you likely noticed yellow tape and traffic cones blocking off the park’s main circular drive. The area was closed to allow crews to remove sand, rework the road surface, and address ongoing flooding in the low-lying section of the park. Officials said the improvements were necessary due to recurring flooding from the Soque River.
Throughout the project, pedestrian access remained open, and the playground at the park was unaffected.
With paving now complete, traffic restrictions will be lifted. Poole said there are no other major projects currently scheduled for the park. She said the city is looking forward to welcoming the community back for upcoming events at Pitts Park, including the Cruise in With Purpose Car Show on April 10 and the VFL Duck Race and Family Fun Fest during the Mountain Laurel Festival on May 16.
