
On January 24, 2026, at approximately 7:23 PM CST, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office was contacted in reference to possible animal cruelty in the 1700 block of Lee Road 400 in the Beauregard Community of Lee County. Deputies responded and located approximately 16 dogs that appeared to be malnourished and did not have access to food and water. Lee County Investigators responded and obtained a search warrant for the property. During the search, 16 dogs that appeared to be of a pit bull variety were seized and transported by Lee County Animal Control to a Veterinary clinic in Opelika to be evaluated.
On January 25, 2026, the Veterinarian advised investigators that all the dogs were in poor health and it appeared that they had not been cared for on a regular basis. The owner of the dogs, Mose Washington Jr. (65) from Opelika was arrested and charged with 16 felony counts of Aggravated Animal Cruelty with bond set at $80,000.00. This is an ongoing investigation.
