1 dead, 2 critical after early morning shooting in Athens

ATHENS, Ga. — One person is dead and two others are in critical condition following an early morning shooting in Athens.

According to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 2:20 a.m. Saturday, March 14, in a parking lot in the 400 block of North Jackson Street.

Investigators say three people were shot during the incident.

One of the victims, 22-year-old Clayton Adams of Hull, was pronounced dead. The two other individuals involved were transported to a local hospital, where they remain in critical condition. Athens-Clarke County Police Lt. Katie Jenkins referred to them as “victims.”

Police have not released additional details about what led to the shooting.

The investigation remains active.
