Douglas “Neal” Nash Jr., age 76, of Demorest, formerly of Covington, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, August 28, 2026, following several years of declining health.

Born on August 10, 1950, Neal was the son of the late Douglas Neal Nash Sr. and Betty Adell McColl Nash. He was a man who found great joy in the simple things in life and, above all, treasured his family and his faith.

Neal was especially proud of his 51-year marriage to the love of his life, Debbie Richardson Nash. Together, they shared a lifetime of memories, love, laughter, and countless moments that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew them. Neal was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather. His children and grandchildren were among his greatest joys, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

A self-taught bass musician, Neal had a natural love for music and enjoyed expressing himself through his playing. He also loved getting behind the wheel of his pickup truck and enjoying the open road. Those who knew Neal will remember his genuine personality, his love for the things that brought him happiness, and the unique way he made an impression on everyone around him.

Most importantly, Neal loved Jesus and was never ashamed to profess his faith. His belief was an important part of who he was, and he found comfort and strength in his relationship with the Lord.

Neal leaves behind a lifetime of love and memories that will be treasured by his wife, Debbie Richardson Nash; his sons, Bill Nash and wife Leigh Anne, and Ray Nash and wife Lauren; his grandchildren, Aidan, Morgan, Hudson, Raegan, and Harlan Nash; his sister, Jane Osley, and husband Garry; along with extended family and friends who will deeply miss him.

Though his family will feel his absence, Neal’s memory will live on through the stories shared, the music he loved, the lessons he taught, and most of all, the love he gave so freely to his family.

Donald E. Tench, age 97, of Demorest, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

Mr. Tench was born on June 5, 1929, in Habersham County, Georgia, to the late Hezekiah Tench and Viola Ivie Tench. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dan Tench, Dewey Tench, and Hoyt Tench; sisters, Dorothy O’Neal, Helen McGaha, and Doris Stamey.

Donald proudly dedicated a total of 38 years to military service through both active and reserve duty. During his active-duty service, he served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. His dedication to his fellow veterans continued long after his military service ended. In 1956, Donald became one of the first members of the original Grant-Reeves Honor Guard, a role he faithfully carried out for many years by conducting military rites at the funerals of fellow veterans. His commitment to honoring those who had served their country was a testament to the respect and pride he held for his military brothers and sisters.

Donald was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church. He was also a member of Grant-Reeves V.F.W. Post 7720, American Legion Post #84, and the Shriners and Cornelia Lodge #92 F&AM. In addition to his distinguished military career, Donald retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections after 23 years of dedicated service.

Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Bonnell Chambers Tench, of Demorest; sons, Cranford Milton Tench, of Demorest; Charles Steven Tench, of Potomac, MD; grandchildren, Adam Eugene Tench, MacKenzie Tench, Meredith Tench Rael, and Megan Tench; and brother, Douglas Tench.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, with Rev. Terry Rice and Rev. Robert Nix officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by the Grant Reeves Honor Guard.

Diane King Smith, age 81, of Cornelia, Georgia, took her heavenly flight home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

Born in Warner Robins, Georgia on April 11, 1945, Diane was a daughter of the late Clifford Marley & Mildred Bullington King. She was a graduate of South Habersham High School, Class of 1963.

Diane was a woman of strong faith whose love for the Lord was at the center of her life. Her mornings often began with a cup of coffee and a long conversation with Jesus. She had a special gift for teaching children about God and faithfully served through Vacation Bible School and Good News Club, using crafts, songs, dances, and lessons to share the love of Christ. Her warm and welcoming spirit made everyone feel loved and encouraged.

Blessed with a beautiful voice, Diane loved to sing and could find a song for almost every occasion. Her greatest desire was for everyone she knew and loved to one day join her in Heaven.

Diane was a faithful servant of the Lord and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her joyful spirit, kindness, and legacy of faith will live on through the many lives she touched and the seeds she planted along the way.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, David Smith; and brothers, Larry & Glenn.

Tina was the daughter of the late Robert and Ruby Lee Farmer. Tina has laid down her burdens and traded her wheelchair for a new set of wings. Tina was a woman whose inner strength, grace, and joy left a mark on anyone who knew her.  She was without question one of the strongest souls to ever be on this earth. Even though she faced her physical challenge, she never let her circumstances define her spirit, limit her love, or dictate her joy!  Where others may have seen limitation, she saw purpose.  Tina possessed a rare resilience: never complaining, never questioning, “Why me”? But instead, she chose every single day to meet life with a radiant smile, open heart, and vibrant faith. Her light shone so brightly. She was definitely the light of our family! She found joy in the simple, beautiful moments of life, cherishing long conversations and spending time with her grandchildren. Tina also loved arts and crafts. To know Tina was to be reminded of what real strength looks like.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Queen.

Dr. William Warren Robinson, 75, of Tignall, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

He was born on June 4, 1951, in Atlanta, GA. William attended the University of Georgia and Tulane University before continuing his education at the Southern California College of Optometry, where he earned his Doctor of Optometry degree.

Following graduation, he joined Dr. William Cuthbertson in Cornelia, Georgia, where he practiced for many years. He later moved to Tignall, Georgia, and opened a practice in Washington, where he owned and operated Wilkes Eye Care for 38 years. Throughout his career, William faithfully served his patients and community and took great pride in his profession.

Outside of his work, William enjoyed farming, running, biking, and playing tennis. He was also an avid small-engine pilot and participated in the Bike Ride Across Georgia for many years. His many interests reflected his adventurous spirit and his enjoyment of an active life.

William is survived by his devoted wife, Frances “Franny” Purvis Robinson; his brother, Dr. Jesse Robinson and his wife, Stacie, of Tignall, Georgia; nephews, Leroy “Tripper” Robinson III, Danny Hammond Robinson (Ashley), and Walker Lee Robinson; nieces, Jessica Robinson Halminski and Maggie Mae Robinson; stepdaughter-in-law, Kerri Dodd; step-grandchildren, Wesley Avery Dodd III (Lauren) and Diana Dodd Richards (Dillon); along with other family members and many friends who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Walker “Robby” Robinson; his mother, Marjory Robinson; his brother, Leroy “Lee” Walker Jr.; and his stepson, Wesley “Wes” Avery Dodd Jr.

A graveside service to honor William’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the Robinson Family Cemetery, with Wesley Avery Dodd III officiating.

Mary Loretta Wildensteiner Goebel, age 76, of Mount Airy, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Born in Washington, D.C., on January 24, 1950, Mary was a daughter of the late Conrad Wildensteiner and Mary Loretta Shea Wildensteiner.

Mary lived her life with a kind and giving heart, finding joy in serving others and in the simple blessings of everyday life. For many years, she faithfully volunteered with Sharing & Caring of Cornelia, generously giving of her time to help those in need throughout the community. Her willingness to serve others was a beautiful reflection of the caring and compassionate person she was.

In her spare time, Mary enjoyed sewing, but the moments she treasured most were those spent alongside her beloved husband, Jim. After 51 wonderful years of marriage, theirs was a life built upon love, companionship, and countless memories shared together. Whether enjoying a quiet day at home or simply being in one another’s company, time with Jim was always precious to Mary. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was a faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church in Cleveland. Mary loved the Lord, and her family finds comfort in knowing that she has now entered her eternal home, where faith has become sight.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her younger sisters, Carol and Linda.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 51 years, Jim Goebel; several nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends who will cherish her memory.

Though Mary’s earthly journey has come to an end, the kindness she shared, the lives she touched through her years of service, and the love she gave so freely will remain a lasting part of her legacy. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her, but her memory will continue to live on in their hearts.

Carol was a sweet, loving, and independent woman whose beautiful smile could brighten the lives of those around her. A godly woman, she lived her life with a strong heart and a caring spirit, leaving a lasting impression on her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Carol had a love for the simple joys of life. She loved flowers, singing, dancing, and even cutting grass. She was also known for her kindness and generosity, often sharing her love with others through something she enjoyed making, her cakes. She will be fondly remembered for taking cakes to the Homer Drug Store, Banks County Sheriff’s Office, and Commerce Veterinary Hospital, bringing a little sweetness and joy to those she cared about.

She will be remembered for her sweet spirit, beautiful smile, independent nature, strong faith, and the love she so freely gave to others. Though she will be greatly missed, the memories she created and the lives she touched will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the tremendous outpouring of love, kindness, prayers, and support shown by the community during this difficult time. Every gesture of love and compassion has meant more than words can express.

Amanda Jan Gulley, age 77 of Alto, Georgia, passed away peacefully in her home with family at her bedside on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, after an extended illness.

She is reunited with her beloved husband, Doug, and healed by her Lord Jesus. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law Helen Savage of Alto, Jean and Tim Trotter of Macon, Kathy Gulley of Alto, and Ben Savage of McDonough; brothers and sisters-in-law Jackie and Gloria Wade of Cornelia, Danny and Lela Wade of Alto; sister Judy Turner of Fairburn; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Winnie Poole of Mt. Airy, Kathy Gragg of Cornelia, Daisy and “Dub” Standridge of Cleveland, Carolyn Gulley of Alto; grandchildren Jonah and Lindsey Savage of Clarkesville, Zane Savage and Taylor Grobe of Oakwood, and Ella and Cara Trotter of Macon; aunts Ruth Acrey of Cornelia and Bonnie Bagwell of Buford; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her siblings Gail Strickland, Douglas Wade, and Phillip Wade.

Born in a barn in Alto, Georgia, on March 7, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Crawford and Cara Wade. As she grew, she paid attention to her mother in the kitchen, and helped tend to her younger siblings. She was a 1967 graduate from East Hall High School. She worked hard her entire life, no stranger to a sewing plant or cotton mill. She was an excellent seamstress, and she enjoyed sewing for family and as a business. Her last job was as kitchen coordinator at the Habersham County Senior Center, where she made some wonderful friends. Every year she worked the garden alongside Doug, and together they put up enough vegetables to feed the whole family until the next year. Perhaps her two favorite things were cooking and spending time with family, whom she loved dearly. She cherished being able to gather all her children and grandchildren around her table to absolutely gorge themselves on whatever feast she had prepared for them. Her biscuits and gravy were unmatched.

Jan loved the Lord. She put that love in action visiting sick and homebound individuals, and in more recent years was caregiver for her sister and her mother. At the time of her passing, she attended New Hope Baptist Church.

The family wants to thank Shelley Dean, niece, who has been a constant presence in Jan’s life for the last year, bringing companionship and comfort. Also, Tracy Arrowood, cousin, has been a tremendous help in times of greater need. Jan chose Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center to help her at home. Jamie, Rebecca, Asia, Floyd, and the kind voices on the phone at 3 am compassionately walked Jan’s daughters through her homegoing, and for that they will be forever grateful.

Jan will be greatly missed. Instead of a traditional service, she requested a celebration of life family reunion style, which will be announced soon.

Bessie Mae Armour Wade, age 91, of Alto, Georgia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 24, 2026.

Born in Lula, Georgia, on August 10, 1935, Bessie Mae was a daughter of the late Dee Armour and Vadie Thomas Armour. She spent many years working as a seamstress with Baldwin Garment before her retirement. Bessie Mae lived a life filled with faith, family, music, and simple joys. In her spare time, she enjoyed arranging flowers and crafting, but some of her fondest memories were made “loafering” on day trips with her beloved husband, Hoyt. Wherever the road might lead, they simply enjoyed being together and sharing life side by side throughout their 65 years of marriage.

Music was also an important part of Bessie Mae’s life and ministry. She loved Southern Gospel music and was blessed with a heart for sharing it with others. Over the years, she would often visit local nursing homes, where she sang and played her guitar for the residents. Through those visits, she brought encouragement, joy, and the message of God’s love to many who looked forward to hearing her sing.

Above all, Bessie Mae loved the Lord. She attended Crossroads Baptist Church faithfully until declining health prevented her from attending. Though her health may have eventually kept her from the church house, the faith she carried in her heart remained steadfast. Her family finds comfort in knowing that the Savior she loved and sang about for so many years has now welcomed her home.

In addition to her parents, Bessie Mae was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Hoyt Wade; infant son, Hoyt Roger Wade; brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard and Julie Armour, William and Sally Armour, and D.W. Armour and Joyce Ann Bishop; and sister, Willaree Armour.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Pam Wade; special nephew and spouse, Greg “Steve” and Carol Armour; grandchildren, Matthew H. Wade and Laura Morales Wade, Joshua S. and Cris Wade, Anthony Glen Armour, and Adam Armour; great-grandchildren, Aliyah Pierce, Lennon Wade, Lyon Wade, Levi Armour, Keely Armour, Mason Armour, and Cooper Armour; brother and sister-in-law, Faye and Sue Armour; sister and brother-in-law, Judy Armour Clark and Bob Clark; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Bessie Mae leaves behind the beautiful memory of a life well lived—a life marked by devotion to her family, kindness toward others, songs of faith, and an enduring love for her Lord. Those who knew her will remember the sound of her guitar, the Gospel songs she loved to sing, her creative spirit, and the many miles of happy “loafering” she shared with Hoyt. Her earthly song may be finished, but the faith behind every note has now become sight.

Donna LaRae Whitfield Simmons, age 62, of Alto, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

Born in Gainesville, Georgia, on December 7, 1963, Donna was the daughter of Mr. Billy Joe Whitfield and Mrs. Brenda England Green. She was a graduate of North Hall High School, Class of 1981.

Donna was a woman whose life was centered around the people she loved. For the past five years, she worked as a baker with Chattahoochee Cheese Market, a fitting occupation for someone who found such joy in creating and caring for others. Whether she was cooking a favorite meal, baking something special, working on a craft, or making one of her herbal remedies, Donna had a gift for putting a little piece of her heart into everything she did.

Above all, Donna treasured her family. She was a loving wife, a devoted daughter and mama, and a wonderful “Nanny” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family was her greatest joy, and the memories made around her table, in her home, and simply spending time together will remain precious for generations to come. To be loved by Donna was to know the warmth of a woman who cared deeply and gave freely of herself.

Donna’s faith was also an important part of her life. She was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church, and her family finds comfort in knowing that the one they loved so dearly has now gone home to be with the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her step-son, Paul Simmons, and brother, Barry Joe “Buffalo” Whitfield.

Ms. Carey was born on November 21, 1960, in Stephens County, Georgia, to the late Wilford Lewallen and Leasie Yvonne McDuffie Whitmire.

Denise Carey was a loving mother, cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, known affectionately as “Nana,” and a beloved sister. Denise had a passion for crafting and enjoyed sharing her talents with others. She was a member of the Sunset Quilting Guild of Cumming, where she enjoyed quilting and crocheting, and crocheted hats for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and made ICU blankets for Northside Hospital. Through these thoughtful gifts, Denise brought comfort and care to people she may never have even met. She was also a member of the Yonah Pickers, a dulcimer group, where she enjoyed making music and spending time with others who shared her love of the instrument.

Above all, Denise treasured her family. As a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and sister, she created memories that will be held close by those who loved her. Her gentle spirit, generous heart, creative hands, and love for others will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Brandon and Susanna Carey, of Cumming; Ron and Kathy Carey, of Baldwin; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Tracy Lewallen, of Baldwin; grandchildren, Joey and Alissa Carey; Elizabeth Carey; great-grandchildren, Warren Carey, Zachary Carey, and Danika Carey; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, with Rev. Kenneth McEntire officiating. Interment will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Glenda Joyce Simmons, age 74, of Homer, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

Mrs. Simmons was born December 24, 1951, to the late James Pearson Tyler and Mary Alice Dalton Tyler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bruce Edward Simmons; sister, Barbara Garrison; brothers, Loyd Tyler and Edward Tyler; granddaughter, Jessica Whitney Fowler.

Glenda was a devoted Christian whose strong faith was a guiding light throughout her life. She was a longtime member of Mt. Sinai Congregational Holiness Church, where her faith and love for the Lord were an important part of who she was. Glenda found joy in the simple things in life, especially spending time fishing. She also lovingly stood beside her husband throughout the many years he worked as a truck driver, not only as his wife but also co-owner of Kayton Express and Tonka Express. She was a faithful and supportive wife, always standing strong by his side and supporting their family. Glenda worked for the Banks County School System for 10 years in the cafeteria, a job she truly loved. Her decision to work there was especially meaningful because it allowed her to be close to her family, something that was always important to her.

Most importantly, Glenda will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, affectionately known as “Nana” and “Tiny Nana”

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Robert Townley, of Homer; Tonya and Thad Pruitt, of Homer; six grandchildren, Christina Kelley, Dylan Fowler, Kirkland Pruitt, Gabriel Pruitt, Kim Pruitt, Haleigh Pruitt; great-grandchildren, Sophia Walker, Izabel Baird, Clifford Echols, Lane Pruitt, Makenzie Fowler, Carson Fowler, Cailyn Kelley, and Waylon Kelley.

Robert Joseph “Bobby” Forrester, age 67, of Mt. Airy, passed away Friday, July 31, 2026.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, on August 18, 1958, Bobby was the son of the late Lewis Richard Forrester and Madeline Broome. Bobby enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with family and friends. Bobby was employed by Fieldale Farms, Inc. In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Richard Forrester, and niece, Sherry Ramey.

Survivors include his son Brian Forrester of Mt. Airy; sisters Susan White and Lucy Ramey of Alabama; grandchildren Brin, Bethany, and Briar; nephews John Forrester and Robert Ramey; nieces Amanda Hopper, Misty Nichols, and Kim Adams; as well as numerous extended family and friends.

Christopher Alan Elwood, age 68 of Clarkesville, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

Born in Burlington, Vermont, on December 30, 1957, Christopher was the son of the late Perle and Jeanette Bansquet Elwood. In addition to his parents, Mr. Elwood is preceded in death by his son Kasey Elwood, brother Terry Elwood, and sister Lynn Donaghy. Mr. Elwood had worked at Metals USA as a master electrician. In his spare time, he enjoyed motorcycle riding, fishing, hunting, and panning for gold. Mr. Elwood loved hanging out with his family, friends, as well as his dog Evie Grace.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Stanhope Elwood of Clarkesville; son, Nathan Elwood of Highgate, Vermont; daughters, Coleen Rotunno of Gainesville, Donna Stanley of Simsbury, Connecticut, and Katherine Stanhope of Suwanee; and sister, Cathy Elwood of North Carolina, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 77 Homestead Lane, Highgate, Vermont.

Ashlie Seitz Robertson, age 41, of Habersham County, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

Ashlie was born on June 12, 1985, in Los Angeles County, California. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Jane Hunter Vickers; son, Dominick Anthony Robertson; and brother, Jason Howard.

Ashlie was a truly special woman whose beautiful spirit, strength, and love touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was a free spirit with a beautiful soul and a positive way of looking at life, even when things were difficult. She had a heart that was impossible to forget and a way of making those around her feel loved, accepted, and important simply by being herself. Ashlie was a hardworking woman who never hesitated to give everything she had to the people she loved. She was the kind of person who would gladly give you the shirt off her back. She worked hard and was always willing to fight through whatever challenges life placed in her path. She also had a creative side and loved to paint and create things. She was especially crafty and enjoyed working on job sites, where she could put her hands and talents to work.

Some of her most treasured memories were made with her family. She loved working with her father, and as a family they enjoyed preparing meals together, including zuppa toscana and carne asada. These simple moments of being together became memories that her loved ones will cherish forever. Ashlie was also a woman of strong faith. She was very spiritual and often reminded her daughters to pray when life became difficult. Her faith and her determination helped shape the way she lived and the way she cared for those around her.

Above everything else, Ashlie was an incredible mother. Her children were her world, and she fought for them with everything she had. She endured difficult times and never stopped fighting to make sure her babies were cared for, loved, and never had to go without. There was nothing she would not do for her children. She was strong, loving, selfless, and determined, and her daughters knew without question how deeply their mother loved them. Her daughters will forever remember the little things that made their mother so special: the meals she made, the warmth of her hugs, her touch, her beautiful smile, and the way her laughter could always make them laugh. They will remember how she always tried her hardest for them and how deeply she cared. Though they wish they could talk to her just one more time, they will carry her love with them for the rest of their lives.

Ashlie was also a beloved sister, and to her sister she was far more than family; she was her best friend, her forever person, and a piece of her heart. The two shared a lifetime together, laughing together, crying together, fighting through difficult times together, and standing side by side through it all. No matter what life brought them, they always had each other. That bond and the memories they created will remain a cherished part of her sister’s heart forever.

Ashlie’s love extended beyond her immediate family. Anyone who had the privilege of crossing paths with her was left with a little piece of her in their heart. She had a gift for making people feel welcome and loved, and her presence made a lasting difference in the lives of those around her. She was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
