MT. AIRY — The Mount Airy Town Council will meet Monday night with a full agenda that includes the swearing-in of a new council member, a final vote on proposed alcohol ordinance changes, and consideration of two intergovernmental agreements.

The meeting is set for 7 p.m. Dec. 1 at Town Hall.

One of the first items of business will be the swearing-in of Sam Wilbanks, who will take his seat on the council following his election this fall.

Council members are also expected to hold a second reading of amendments to the town’s alcohol ordinance. The changes would add a new “farm winery” license class and increase the number of alcohol licenses available under existing categories.

Last month, the council unanimously approved the first reading of the amendment, which would allow farm wineries to apply for a local license if they meet state requirements. The proposal would also expand the number of available pouring licenses from two to five across all categories. .

In addition to the alcohol vote, the council will consider an intergovernmental agreement with the Town of Alto to provide probation services. Officials will also take up a resolution to adopt updates to the Habersham County Emergency Operations Plan, a routine document that outlines coordinated responses to major incidents.

Council members will then discuss a proposed animal control agreement with Habersham County, which would formalize how Mt. Airy handles animal-related enforcement and sheltering services.

The meeting is open to the public, and time for public comments is included on the agenda.
