Mother injured in driveway by out-of-control vehicle

STEPHENS COUNTY, Ga. — A young mother was seriously injured when an out-of-control vehicle ran over her in her driveway. The accident happened Saturday afternoon on Sherwood Street southwest of Toccoa.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, 28-year-old Cassie Nix was loading a Buick Enclave when her 5-year-old son got into the front seat and bumped the gearshift. The SUV traveled down the driveway, crossed the road, and struck the neighbor’s parked Honda Accord. The Enclave then hit a mailbox before slamming into the rear of the same neighbor’s house at 427 Sherwood Street.

Authorities said Nix was injured while attempting to stop the moving SUV. She was found lying on the ground, speaking with EMS when troopers arrived. Firefighters and paramedics stabilized her at the scene. An ambulance transported Nix to a nearby trauma center for treatment. No other injuries were reported

The crash caused significant property damage to the neighbor’s house, mailbox, and vehicle, troopers said.
