Marta Aragones Turpin Adair

Marta Aragones Turpin Adair, age 92, of Demorest, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 10, 2026.

Born in Cienfuegos, Cuba, on May 6, 1934, Marta was a daughter of the late Pedro Aragones and Aida Alvarez Aragones. Her life was one marked by compassion, service, strength, and an abiding devotion to those she loved.

Marta was a graduate of Piedmont College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in chemistry. She later devoted 34 years of her professional life to the Department of Family & Children’s Services. Through her work, Marta played an important role in helping foster children find loving homes, touching countless lives along the way. Her heart for children and families extended far beyond her career. She was actively involved with the local Brownies and Girl Scouts, serving for many years as a troop leader in Clarkesville, and she was also instrumental in assisting with migrant programs within the local school system.

Her willingness to serve others reflected the generous and compassionate spirit that defined so much of her life. Marta was truly a “social butterfly” who enjoyed people and brought a lively presence wherever she went. She had a wonderful sense of style and loved fashion and jewelry, always taking special care with her appearance—even when she was simply at home. She loved music and dancing, reading People magazine and romance novels, working word search puzzles, and watching movies, especially those on the Hallmark Channel. She also appreciated good Cuban food, a connection to the heritage and culture that remained an important part of her life. Some of Marta’s fondest memories were made during the many summers she spent at Lake Burton, surrounded by the beauty of the mountains and, most importantly, the people she loved.

Above everything else, Marta’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was her family. She was the true matriarch—a steady rock, a source of comfort, and a reassuring presence through every season of life. No matter the circumstances, her family knew they could depend upon her for love, encouragement, wisdom, and support. She treasured every opportunity to spend precious time with those closest to her.

Affectionately known as “Nana,” Marta carried that special title far beyond her immediate family. Many of her children’s friends and countless others came to know and love her as Nana as well—a beautiful reflection of the way she welcomed people into her heart and made them feel like family.

Marta leaves behind a legacy that cannot simply be measured in years, but in lives touched, children helped, friendships formed, memories made, and generations deeply loved. Though her family will greatly miss her familiar presence, her strength, laughter, style, and unwavering love will remain woven into their lives for generations to come. After a life spent caring for others and being a source of strength to so many, Marta is now resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior.

Survivors include her daughter & son-in-law, Carmen Turpin Bradford & Matt Bradford; son, Tony Turpin, step-son, Terry Adair; grandchildren, Andy & Amber Payne, Dakota & Lisa Blair, Lauren & Justin Davis, Lily Turpin, & Josie Turpin; great-grandchildren, Ella Payne, Sophia Payne, Max Payne, Georgia Blair, Deacon Blair, Hudson Davis, & Hayes Davis; other relatives, & a host of friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 14, 2026, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & McEntire Funeral Home, with Rev. Joyce Acree officiating. Interment will follow in Demorest City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2026, and again from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour on Monday.
