ATHENS, Ga. — A major change is coming to the radio booth for University of Georgia football, as longtime play-by-play voice Scott Howard will step away after 18 years.
The Georgia Bulldog Radio Network announced Friday that Jeff Dantzler will take over play-by-play duties beginning with the 2026 season, joined by analyst Jon Stinchcomb. D.J. Shockley will remain on the sidelines.
Howard succeeded the legendary Larry Munson as the voice of the Bulldogs. He has been part of Georgia broadcasts for more than 30 seasons and will continue calling men’s basketball.
The move marks the end of an era that included some of the program’s biggest moments, including back-to-back national championships.
After the announcement, Howard addressed the change on X.
“Thank you to everyone for all the messages. Didn’t know that many people had my number,” Howard wrote. “Just to clear up any confusion, respectfully, it was not my decision to step away from the football broadcast.”
Dantzler, a longtime presence in Georgia athletics broadcasts, called the opportunity “a dream come true” and said he is “grateful and humbled” to take over the role.
The new broadcast team will debut with the Bulldogs’ 2026 football season.
