
On March 14, 2026, the burglaries of two storage units located in the 9000 Block of Lee Road 246 in Smiths Station, AL, were reported to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. The reporting party stated the storage units were rented by a non-profit organization and property valued at approximately $2,100 was removed from the units.
On March 16, 2026, Lee County Sheriff’s Office Investigators reviewed surveillance video and developed a suspect and a possible location of the stolen property. Investigators conducted a search warrant at the residence of Stephen Michael Hammock Jr. (37), in the 100 block of Lee Road 977, Phenix City. Multiple items of stolen property were recovered in Hammock’s residence. Investigators also conducted a search warrant at a storage unit in the 9000 Block of Lee Road 246 and recovered additional stolen property. The recovered property was returned to the non-profit organization.
Stephen Hammock Jr. was charged with two counts of Burglary 3rd Degree and one count of Theft of Property 2nd Degree. He is being held in the Lee County Detention Center on a $9,000 bond.
