The Lady Indians won their first match of the season before dropping the second in a 3-set thriller on Tuesday at Banks County. TFS (1-1) beat Winder-Barrow 2-0 before losing to host Banks 2-1.
In the opener against Winder, TFS shook off a slow start. Shelby Whisnant had a 6-point run at serve with two aces. Emma Whisnant followed with a strong showing at the serving line, helping the girls to take momentum. They’d go on to win the first set, 25-17.
Winder-Barrow retaliated with a strong second set, but the defense was strong and TFS notched 12 kills in the set, winning 25-23 to win the first match of the season. Corrine Swinton had six kills, Beatriz Araujo had five kills and four aces, and Stella Bowman added five kills. Tori Crotta connected on four kills and had two blocks.
In the Banks County match, Tallulah had some trouble passing and suffered an 11-25 first set. The Lady Indians bounced back with a 25-13 second set to even the match.
“We came back with a vengeance, and were determined to changed the atmosphere in the gym,” says coaches Matt Heyl and Matt Crotta. “We came out rolling with excellent serves from Finlee Ridlehoover.”
Ridlehoover’s strong serving led to a 7-1 start, and Shelby Whisnant followed with a great performance serving.
“We never looked back. The ladies played great all around. It was a vision of what these ladies can do together when they trust each other.”
In the decisive third set, Banks County edged out TFS 15-11 in a back-and-forth set. Shelby Whisnant closed with six kills and two aces. Swinton and Bowman both dropped five kills, while the latter also recorded two blocks.
