ATLANTA — Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp hosted the annual Veterans Day ceremony at the Georgia State Capitol on Thursday. The event, traditionally held ahead of the national observance on November 11, drew veterans, their families, and lawmakers from across the state.
Kemp used the occasion to express his gratitude for those who have served and to reflect on the freedoms their sacrifices protect.
“Following the election, everyone should be reminded that we are freely able to make our own choices. Freedome is not free; it requires men and women to stand in the gap against those who wish to tear down our nation and, really, all it represents. As long as America stands for the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, the enemies of those values will come against our great nation. Fortunately, we can sleep soundly at night knowing the finest fighting force in the world that has ever been known is standing on our watch.”

During the ceremony, Kemp also highlighted new state initiatives to support veterans, including a $2 million investment in mental health services and expanded programs to assist those transitioning from military to civilian life.
Members of the Grant Reeves VFW Post 7720 in Cornelia were among those in attendance. In a post on social media, the group thanked the governor and First Lady Marty Kemp for their “continued support of Georgia’s veterans and their families.”
