
Lee County investigators executed a search warrant Wednesday July 15, 2026, at the home where a Columbus teen was shot and killed. Sheriff Jay Jones said investigators are making sure they collect anything of evidence as the murder investigation continues. According to Sheriff Jones there is no suspect in custody at this time but there is a person of interest in the case.
Anthony Onochie was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds at 11:33 am at Piedmont Midtown the morning of July 11, 2026. First responders were called to the scene just after 1 am on Lee Road 197 where gun fire erupted at a large gathering.
The 18-year-old Onochie graduated from Northside High School in Columbus and was headed to college in the fall.
The Northside Patriots football team issued a statement on social media after the deadly shooting. “Our hearts break for the loss of one of our own. Anthony, a recent graduate and soon to be student at Georgia State, was a beloved member of our football program and school. Our prayers are with his entire family and the entire Northside community. Once a Patriot, Always a Patriot.”
