Hundreds of people gathered at Jordan High School’s baseball field Thursday night to honor Coach Tony Dimitri. Dimitri worked as an educator and coach at Jordan from 2011-2022 before taking the head coaching position at Harris County High School. He was killed last weekend in an ATV accident.

Phillip and Heather Clark were co-sponsors of the vigil. Phillip Clark said “I played for Coach Anthony Dimitri and then our son got to come and play for Tony. The Dimitri name is synonymous with Jordan baseball. It just felt like it was something that had to happen. The name means too much here for it to not go honored.”
“He was somebody that you didn’t get to have a conversation with and not be a better person after the conversation no matter what your perspective was,” Clark said he made a tremendous impact on countless lives. “There’s a lot of kids including ours that probably would not have finished high school without Tony Dimitri.”
The Harris County School District issued a statement on Dimitri’s untimely passing earlier this week. “Coach Dimitri was more than a coach. He was a mentor, a leader, and a steady source of encouragement for countless students and colleagues. His passion for students, commitment to excellence, and genuine care for others left a lasting imprint on our school and the lives he touched every day in the Harris County School District and community.”
A Celebration of Life service will take place on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. at Cascade Hills. Rev. Thad Haygood of St. Luke Church, the Dimitri family’s home church, will officiate according to his obituary.
