Helen Voters approve Sunday Brunch referendum

Helen businesses could soon be serving alcohol by the drink 90 minutes earlier on Sunday following the approval of a referendum on the so called ” Sunday Brunch Bill” on Tuesday.

Senate Bill 17 allows restaurants to serve alcohol on Sunday starting at 11 a.m. if local voters approve it and the officials pass a local ordinance.

Helen City Clerk Marilyn Chastain advises that the measure was approved in a special referendum Tuesday by a vote of 202 yes to 51 no.

The Helen City Commission is expected to take talk about the approval vote at its next meeting Tuesday.
