Home heating assistance available this winter

The annual Energy Assistance Program is getting ready to help eligible households with home heating costs this winter. The program, through Ninth District Opportunity, provides a one-time payment made directly to your home energy supplier once your application is approved.

Appointments are required, and scheduling will not begin until 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 1.

Who qualifies

Eligibility is based on your total household income and whether you are responsible for home heating costs. Applicants must provide:

  • Verification for all household members
  • Social Security numbers
  • Proof of citizenship (such as a photo ID)
  • Proof of income for the past 30 days
  • A recent home heating bill

The program opens Dec. 1, 2025, for elderly (65 and older) or homebound applicants. The general public may begin applying on Jan. 2, 2026.
