WHITE COUNTY, Ga. — The Georgia Department of Natural Resources will conduct a controlled burn today at Smithgall Woods in White County, according to county fire officials.
Josh Taylor, assistant chief for fire services in White County, said the burn will cover about 130 acres and will border Asbestos Road.
“DNR will be conducting a 130-acre controlled burn today at Smithgall Woods. This will also border Asbestos Rd. They advised it will be fully surrounded by roads and that they will have equipment on site,” Taylor said in an email to Now Habersham.
Following the notice, Now Habersham contacted White County Public Safety, which said the burn will not result in any road closures and is not expected to affect traffic.
The burn will be conducted by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources at Smithgall Woods as part of routine land management practices.
