
The Columbus Police Department has made an arrest after a man was shot seven times outside a Victory Drive gas station late Thursday night.
Dwayne Quarles, 50, has been taken into custody in connection to the death of Calvin Mitchell. Quarles is charged with Murder, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The arrest was a coordinated effort between CPD’s Violent Crimes Unit and SWAT Team.
Quarles is scheduled to appear in Recorder’s Court for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 8 a.m.
On April 2, 2026, at 11:50 p.m., Columbus Police Officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Victory Drive in reference to a shooting. Responding officers discovered a Black male (later identified as Calvin Mitchell, 37) suffering from gunshot wounds. EMS responded to the scene and transported him to Piedmont Columbus Regional where he
died from his injuries.
