CLEVELAND, Ga. — Public safety and public works crews in Cleveland are on standby and ready to respond as Winter Storm Fern threatens Northeast Georgia with dangerous conditions.
Mayor Josh Turner issued a Declaration of a State of Emergency for the city on Saturday, citing conditions that pose a current and potential threat to life, health, safety, and property. The declaration allows the city to move quickly and deploy resources as needed to protect residents and maintain essential services.
“We have been in preparation all week and this declaration allows the City of Cleveland to take all necessary and appropriate actions to protect our residents and property,” said Mayor Josh Turner. “It ensures we can respond without delay, support our public works and public safety employees, and coordinate resources effectively as conditions require.”
The declaration was issued under authority granted by state and local law and authorizes extraordinary measures during the emergency period. All city departments have been directed to remain in a heightened state of readiness and to carry out emergency responsibilities as conditions evolve.
City officials are urging residents to remain alert, follow guidance from local authorities, and closely monitor official communications from White County Public Safety and the City of Cleveland for updates as the storm moves through the region.
The State of Emergency will remain in effect until it is terminated by the mayor or by further official action, unless extended due to ongoing or worsening conditions.
Emergency situations should be reported by calling 911. Additional updates will be shared through the City of Cleveland’s official website and social media channels.
