CLARKESVILLE — The Clarkesville City Council will hold a called work session Tuesday, April 7, as city leaders continue discussions on several ongoing projects, including the proposed downtown hotel site and upcoming grant opportunities.
The work session is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Clarkesville City Hall and comes ahead of the council’s regular April meeting set for April 13.
In a message sent April 1, Interim City Manager Julie Poole said council members plan to begin holding work sessions the week prior to regular meetings going forward. The council is expected to formally vote on that schedule at its next meeting.
According to the agenda, council will revisit several items of unfinished business, including a potential generator purchase, updates on the 555 Monroe Street property — the site tied to the city’s proposed hotel project — and council department assignments.
The 555 Monroe Street property has been a focal point in recent months as the city explores redevelopment options that could include a hotel and a new fire station. Previous discussions have included conducting a topographical survey and evaluating how best to position the site for future investment.
Under new business, the council will receive a grants update from Grants Manager Sara Burke.
According to the agenda packet, the city has recently pursued multiple funding opportunities, including a $1.6 million request through the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank for improvements to the downtown square, as well as various public safety and infrastructure grants. Some applications were not awarded, while others — including a $20,000 Criminal Justice Coordinating Council grant — have been approved and are moving forward.
The agenda also includes time for open discussion, public comment and a possible executive session.
Tuesday’s work session is expected to help shape the agenda and decisions for the council’s April 13 meeting.
