ALTO, Ga. — Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones is scheduled to make a campaign stop in Habersham County next week as he continues his bid for the Republican nomination for governor.
Jones will hold a campaign rally Wednesday, June 10 at 1:30 p.m. at Anderson Carpet One Floor & Home in Alto, according to campaign organizers.
The visit comes less than a week before Georgia Republicans head to the polls for a June 16 runoff election that will determine the party’s nominee to succeed term-limited Gov. Brian Kemp.
Jones advanced to the runoff after finishing first in the May 19 Republican primary but failed to secure the majority vote required to avoid a second election. He will face businessman and healthcare executive Rick Jackson, who also advanced from the Republican field. Georgia law requires a candidate to receive more than 50% of the vote to win a party nomination outright.
The runoff has become one of Georgia’s most closely watched political contests. Jones, a former state senator who was elected lieutenant governor in 2022, entered the race as a leading contender and has received the endorsement of President Donald Trump. Jackson, a political newcomer and healthcare executive, has campaigned as a conservative outsider while spending heavily on the race.
With the runoff election less than a week away, Habersham County voters will soon begin casting ballots. The county’s early voting schedule includes Saturday voting from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 6 and advance voting from June 8-12 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Election Day is June 16.
Jones’ stop in Alto is part of a final campaign push across Georgia as he seeks the Republican nomination for governor in a runoff against Jackson. The winner will advance to the November general election.
