Buddhist Monks continue ‘Walk for Peace’ despite winter weather

A group of Buddhist Monks continue their trek across the country despite brutal weather conditions. The Walk for Peace is in North Carolina on day 93 of the monks 120-day journey to Washington D.C. The 2,300 mile walk from Fort Worth, Texas is to raise awareness of peace, loving kindness, and compassion across America and the world according to their official Facebook page.

Thousands of people have lined the route to get a glimpse of the Monks. “We are so warmed by everyone, in the coldest moments, your kindness wraps around us like a tender embrace,” the monks said in their latest social media post. The only significant change during the Walk for Peace is no visiting hours during their lunch and night stops due to inclement weather.

The Buddhist Monks furry companion Aloka the Peace Dog is still recovering from leg surgery and travels with the monks by vehicle. Aloka was enjoying a spa day today with the help of volunteers.

There are many ways to offer support to the Walk for Peace including heartfelt prayers for the monk’s safety and success. Contact the coordinator at walkforpeaceofficial@gmail.com.
