BALDWIN, Ga. — A house fire Sunday morning destroyed a single-family home in Banks County, while two people were injured after being struck by a vehicle as they attempted to move cars from the driveway, according to Banks County fire officials.

Units with Banks County Fire and Emergency Services responded around 8:11 a.m. March 15 to a reported structure fire at 412 Otis Brown Road, Chief Steve Nichols said.

When firefighters arrived, they found the home heavily involved in flames. Crews also discovered two victims from the residence who had been struck by a vehicle while attempting to relocate vehicles in the driveway.

Both victims — an adult female and an approximately 8-year-old girl — were treated at the scene and transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Nichols said both were listed in stable condition.

According to Nichols, the two individuals were hit by a family member while moving vehicles as the fire unfolded.

Firefighters determined the residence to be a total loss.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Banks County Fire Department investigators. Nichols said an accidental fire could not be ruled out from a burn pit that had been active earlier in the day.

No other injuries were reported.

The incident concluded at 12:23 p.m. Assistance at the scene was provided by the Baldwin, Habersham and Cornelia fire departments, Nichols said.
