The Baldwin City Council approved an emergency water repair invoice and announced the upcoming budget schedule during Monday’s meeting.

Mayor Stephanie Almagno brought forward an amendment to the agenda for the council to consider. The council approved to amend the agenda to include Emergency Water Line Repair Expense.

Chief Administrative Officer Emily Woodmaster explained to the council that the emergency repair was due to the water leak that began Friday evening just as the Memorial Day weekend was beginning. Once the first leak was repaired, more leaks appeared down the mountain system.

For one of the leaks, the water line was deeper than anticipated, requiring the need for a larger machine to dig down to the water main to facilitate the repair. The city called in Keener Construction over the weekend to assist with the repair work.

Almagno praised the public works department for working for 48 hours over the weekend to repair the leaks and get the system back online. She added that the crews came back in on Monday to monitor the systems recovery.

The cost for the repair was $7,960. The council approved the invoice not to exceed $8,000.

Budget

The council did not discuss the FY 2026 budget during its meeting but Almagno announced that the budget would be available to the public on the website and at City Hall on Friday, May 30.

She stated that the formal budget presentation to the council would be during the council work session on Tuesday, June 3. The public hearing to receive public input on the budget is scheduled for Monday, June 9, during the council’s regular meeting.
