ATHENS, Ga. — A 19-year-old Athens man has been arrested in connection with an early morning shooting in downtown Athens that damaged several businesses but left no one injured, authorities said.
The shooting occurred around 3:05 a.m. Sunday, July 5, when officers with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the area of 246 E. Clayton St.
Investigators determined that multiple firearms of different calibers were discharged during the incident. While no injuries were reported, several businesses along East Clayton Street were struck by gunfire.
With assistance from the University of Georgia Police Department, officers arrested Damian Swint, 19, of Athens.
Swint is charged with aggravated assault, reckless conduct, possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies, theft by receiving stolen property, carrying a weapon in a school safety zone and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
The investigation remains ongoing.
