
Arthur Gene Lee, 90, of Clayton, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
Born in Forest Park, Georgia, on October 10, 1935, Gene was the fifth of five children born to the late Colie R. Lee and Jesse Velma Haynie Lee. He graduated from Forest Park High School in 1954 and went on to serve two years in the United States Army, including fourteen months in Germany. Upon returning home, he joined the family business and, together with his brother Jere, became owners of what became Lee Tire Company, which they operated for 24 years. Gene possessed a strong work ethic from an early age.
On August 23, 1958, he married Brenda Gail Owensby. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Forest Park for 75 years.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings William J. “Bill” Lee, Jere D. Lee, Juanita Bowlden, and Carolyn Nipper.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Gail Lee; his daughters Gina Lee Fulghum (Chuck) and Jodie Lee Bazemore (Reid); his son Justin Glen Lee (Ashley); his grandchildren Cole Fulghum, Chandler Fulghum Severson, Ollie Lee Bazemore, Taylor, Ellie, and Alice Lee; and his great-granddaughter Scarlett Reid Bazemore.
Gene was a great provider and protector of his family. He will be lovingly remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
A celebration of Gene’s life will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Clarksville, Georgia. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church of Clarkesville Kitchen Fund (Wednesday Night Supper) or to Victory Home, Tallulah Falls, Georgia.
