Phenix City Police say an arrest has been made after a 4-year-old child was shot in the head Sunday. According to a press release on March 15, 2026, the Phenix City Police Department responded to Whispering Pines Apartments located at 1200 12th Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a four-year-old female that had been shot in the head while she slept.
The offender was identified as Youhan Jones Jr. Youhan Jones Jr. was reportedly in a dating relationship with the child’s mother. The residence was also occupied by four other victims during the shooting, which included two more children. No one else was injured in the incident.
Investigators worked diligently to try and locate Jones, and during that time two individuals were arrested for Hindering Prosecution 1st Degree for providing assistance to Jones to help avoid his arrest. Those individuals were identified as Vantasia Mayes, who was a female friend of Jones, and Stephanie Ward, who was Jones’ mother.
On March 16, 2026 Youhan Jones Jr. was arrested for five counts of Attempted Murder, and
