FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ga. — New details have emerged about the arrest of Clinton Patrick Miller, the man whose weekend escape sparked a multi-county manhunt. Authorities say Miller was captured Monday morning in Stephens County after deputies tracked him down near a church on Mize Road.
According to the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a 911 call around 7 a.m. about Miller being spotted in the area.
“Deputies located Miller along West Silver Shoals Road. When they made contact with Miller, the subject attempted to flee. Following a brief foot chase, deputies captured Miller and placed him under arrest,” said Stephens County Sheriff Rusty Fulbright.
Investigators said Miller was carrying three baggies of methamphetamine and less than an ounce of marijuana at the time of his arrest. He was transferred into the custody of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, where he now faces a host of charges, including aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Additional charges for obstruction, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and possession of marijuana have also been filed, officials said.
Stephens County has placed a detainer on Miller for multiple burglary and trespass charges connected to a string of storage unit thefts on Mize Road in June.
Inter-agency cooperation praised
The arrest ends a tense three-day search that began early Saturday in the Canon community of Franklin County. Authorities say Miller was involved in an incident that seriously injured a man who had to be airlifted to the hospital.
When deputies attempted a traffic stop, they said Miller – driving a stolen vehicle from out of state – refused to pull over. The chase ended when he crashed through a pasture fence and into a tree near Highway 320 and McFarlin Bridge Road. He fled into the woods, prompting Franklin County Sheriff Scott Andrews to warn residents that Miller was “armed and dangerous.”
Franklin County Sheriff Scott Andrews thanked the state and local agencies that assisted in the manhunt and eventual arrest, including the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol, Banks County Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of Natural Resources.
“We are blessed to have a great working relationship with our neighboring counties,” Andrews said.
Stephens County Sheriff Rusty Fulbright also credited the public with helping to bring Miller in.
“Thank you to the concerned citizens of Stephens County who provided information leading to the location and arrest of Clinton Miller,” Fulbright said.
