ATLANTA — An Athens resident is $1 million richer after winning the top prize from a Georgia Lottery scratch-off game.

The winning ticket came from the “50X The Money” scratcher. The player bought it at Citgo Food Mart on Monroe Highway in Winder. They claimed the prize on April 2 and chose the lump sum payout of $809,000.

Lottery officials did not release the winner’s name.

Another Northeast Georgia player also scored big, winning $97,268 playing the “50X The Money” Quick Win game. That ticket was purchased at a QuikTrip on Buford Highway in Atlanta.

Proceeds from the Georgia Lottery go to support education programs across the state.
