
HARTWELL, Ga. — Authorities are searching for two Hartwell residents after an attempted traffic stop turned into a motorcycle chase and crash Saturday evening in a busy shopping center parking lot.
The incident happened around 7:42 p.m. on March 28, when a deputy with the Hart County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a motorcycle at the Murphy USA gas station in the Walmart parking lot.
According to deputies, the motorcycle fled through the Walmart parking lot and into the nearby Dollar Tree parking lot before turning around and re-entering the Walmart lot.
During the incident, the motorcycle struck another vehicle.
“Following the crash, the driver of the motorcycle fled the scene on foot and entered another vehicle, which then left the area,” said Sheriff Chris Carroll.
Following an investigation, deputies obtained warrants for 23-year-old Toby Haygood and 22-year-old Lindsey Crowe, both of Hartwell.
Haygood is wanted on charges of felony fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, driving while license suspended or revoked, no registration, and hit and run. Crowe is wanted for felony fleeing and attempting to elude.
The incident remains under investigation.
