CLARKESVILLE, Ga. — A vehicle pursuit involving the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office ended Thursday afternoon after deputies used a PIT maneuver to stop the driver, authorities said.

According to a post on the sheriff’s office Facebook page, the pursuit began just before 1 p.m. in Cornelia and continued onto Cannon Bridge Road. Deputies brought the chase to a safe end within about five minutes using a precision immobilization technique, commonly known as a PIT maneuver.

A PIT maneuver is a law enforcement tactic in which an officer uses their vehicle to make controlled contact with a fleeing vehicle, causing it to spin and stop.

No other vehicles were involved in the pursuit, and no injuries were reported.

The driver was arrested at the scene and transported to the Habersham County Detention Center. Authorities have not released the driver’s identity or any charges.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash that resulted from the PIT maneuver.

No additional details were available as of press time.
