On Friday, March 13, 2026, LaGrange Animal Control, a division of the LaGrange Police Department, successfully executed a large-scale animal rescue operation at a local residence after receiving reports of animals left without care.
The investigation began when officers received information that several animals had been left unattended for multiple days. Upon arrival, LaGrange Police and Animal Control officers confirmed that the homeowner had been receiving medical care for an extended period, leaving the animals in a vulnerable state.
During the rescue operation that spanned several days, officers recovered over 25 cats and one dog from the residence. All surviving animals were immediately transported to a local shelter, where they are currently receiving necessary medical evaluations and care.
The recovery effort also revealed a tragic scene; while searching for animals hiding within the home, officers discovered more than 20 deceased cats. Due to the state of the property, Code Enforcement officers assisted at the scene and have since deemed the residence uninhabitable. The City is currently working with the homeowner to bring the property back into compliance with local building codes.
“The police department’s primary priority in this case was the health and welfare of these animals,” said Sergeant Matt Fowler. “We are grateful that we could step in to provide these pets with the medical attention they so desperately needed.”
The LaGrange Police Department would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the Troup County Marshal’s Office and Columbus Animal Ark for their vital assistance in this investigation and the ongoing care of the rescued animals.
