A house fire has claimed the life of a Columbus woman. According to the Muscogee County Coroner 74-year-old Janice Ferguson died from smoke inhalation in the fire at her Lexington Drive home. Ferguson was pronounced dead on the scene just after 1 p.m.
The fire appears to have started in the kitchen of the home in South Columbus. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
