CLARKESVILLE, Ga. — Crews with Atlanta Gas Light completed repairs Sunday to a gas leak in Clarkesville that occurred after a winter storm brought ice and high winds to Northeast Georgia.
The company responded to a service call after a tree, weighed down by ice and wind, fell onto a gas service line at 5065 Ga. Highway 115, according to a statement from DeAllous Smith, media relations supervisor for Atlanta Gas Light.
“Atlanta Gas Light responded to a service call after a tree, weighed down by ice and high winds from the storm, fell onto our service line at 5065 GA Highway 115 in Clarkesville,” Smith said in an email. He said crews completed the repairs on Sunday, Jan. 25, noting that “Atlanta Gas Light’s top value is the safety of our customers and the communities we serve.”
The leak followed severe winter weather accompanying Winter Storm Fern. A Now Georgia news team detected and reported the leak to Habersham County E-911. When responding to the leak, local officials urged residents to avoid the immediate area while crews worked to secure the line.
No injuries were reported. Atlanta Gas Light said the repairs restored the system to safe operating conditions.
