CLARKESVILLE — The Habersham County Commission will spotlight its growing partnership with the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia on Monday as county leaders prepare to issue a proclamation supporting the regional nonprofit and recognize the countywide “Share the Harvest” food drive now underway.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. Monday in the Jury Assembly Room at the Habersham County Courthouse.
Food insecurity takes center stage
Commissioners are expected to issue a proclamation endorsing the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia and will publicly highlight the Share the Harvest initiative — a month-long food and fundraising drive that launched Nov. 10 and continues through Dec. 13.
As Now Habersham reported Tuesday, the effort was organized after concerns grew over potential delays and disruptions in federal SNAP benefits. County officials say the local food drive is intended to help fill immediate gaps for families, seniors and children who rely on food assistance programs, especially heading into the holidays.
Donation boxes are available at county offices, city halls and other public buildings across Habersham. The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia will coordinate distribution to local partner agencies.
Other presentations
Commissioners will also recognize the Solid Waste Department during the county’s departmental spotlight and issue a proclamation declaring Nov. 19–27 as Farm-City Week. County offices will close Nov. 27–28 for Thanksgiving.
Appointments and new business
The board will consider appointing a new at-large member to fill an unexpired term on the DBHDD Region 1 Advisory Council.
Commissioners will also discuss whether to release and transfer Rocky Branch Road to the City of Clarkesville and a resolution certifying the results of the Nov. 4 election regarding the county’s general-obligation bonds and continuation of the one-percent sales and use tax.
