ALTO — The Alto Town Council will hold its third and final public hearing Tuesday on a proposed increase to the town’s 2025 millage rate before voting on the measure during a called meeting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
The public hearing begins at 6 p.m. and follows two earlier hearings held this month in compliance with state requirements for local governments seeking to raise property taxes.
As reported earlier, Mayor Gail Armour and town officials have discussed restoring the millage rate to 6.2 mills, the level it stood at in 2016, after several years of rollbacks to offset inflation and rising property values. The current rate is 4.37 mills. Armour has said the increase is needed to keep pace with higher operating costs, including insurance and other inflation-driven expenses.
Also on Tuesday’s agenda are updates on the town’s Master Meter water project and a request for qualifications for engineering services, both listed under new business. No old business or public-comment items are scheduled.
The council is expected to vote on the millage rate following the hearing.
