fatal accident

CLERMONT, Ga. — A White County couple has died following a two-vehicle crash that occurred Saturday afternoon, July 5, at the intersection of Cleveland Highway/U.S. 129 and Old Cleveland Road/State Route 254.

According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit, 81-year-old Chandler Scott Partin of Cleveland was driving east on Old Cleveland Road around 2 p.m. when he attempted to cross Cleveland Highway. His vehicle was struck in the intersection by a northbound passenger vehicle on Cleveland Highway and caught fire after impact.

Partin and his wife, 82-year-old Esther L. Partin, were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville with critical injuries. He died later that night. She died the following evening, on Sunday, July 6.

The driver of the other vehicle and four passengers — including two juveniles — were also taken to the hospital. All were treated for minor injuries and later released.

Investigators reviewed surveillance video from two nearby locations and determined Mr. Partin failed to stop at a stop sign before entering the intersection. While the investigation remains ongoing, authorities said no charges are expected.
