ATHENS, Ga. — Three Athens men are facing charges after a police investigation turned up 15 firearms, more than 11 pounds of marijuana and thousands of dollars in cash.
Six of the firearms were machine guns, according to Athens-Clarke County police.
The investigation began Aug. 5 with a traffic stop by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department Gang Unit. Officers seized about a quarter-pound of marijuana, a Glock 27 and $968 in cash.
Police arrested 25-year-old Siderious Heard of Athens. He was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Following the traffic stop, detectives with the ACCPD Gang Unit and Northeast Georgia Drug Task Force executed a search warrant in the 200 block of Sidney Lanier Avenue. There, investigators said they recovered 14 firearms—6 of which were modified with machine gun conversion devices—approximately 10.5 pounds of marijuana, and $4,712 in cash.
Police arrested two more Athens men, identified as 23-year-old Joshua Campbell and 24-year-old Fredrick Heard. Both are charged with trafficking marijuana. They also face multiple counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a machine gun.
