COMMERCE, Ga. — A fire destroyed a 2,500-square-foot structure and caused minor damage to a nearby home Monday morning in Banks County, according to Fire Chief Steve Nichols.

Banks County Fire & Emergency Services responded at 8:40 a.m. May 11 to 646 Harden Bridge Road in Commerce after receiving a report of a structure fire, Nichols said.

When firefighters arrived, they found the main structure fully engulfed in flames. A defensive attack was launched initially to prevent the fire from spreading to two nearby structures, Nichols said.

The primary building was a total loss. It had been used for storage and pet housing, according to Nichols.

A second structure, a single-family residence, sustained minor heat damage. No injuries were reported, and no animals were harmed in the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Banks County Fire Department officials.

Units from LACI Fire Department and Bold Springs Fire Department assisted at the scene. The incident was brought under control and terminated at 11:50 a.m., Nichols said.
