Strong thunderstorms bring gusty winds, hail threat to Northeast Georgia

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ga. — Strong thunderstorms brought heavy rain and gusty winds to parts of Northeast Georgia Saturday afternoon.

The National Weather Service issued a Special Weather Statement for central Franklin, Stephens and southwestern Habersham counties through 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15. Doppler radar showed a cluster of strong thunderstorms stretching from southeast of Toccoa to northwest of Homer.

As the storms moved through the area, reports came in of heavy rainfall, several downed trees and some downed power lines. Despite those impacts, no major storm damage or significant power outages were reported.
