Raising a glass to support veterans

More than 30 local veterans are waiting for critical home repairs. For many, a safe entrance, a repaired roof, or an accessible bathroom isn’t a convenience, it’s the difference between independence and hardship.

House of Heroes Chattahoochee Valley will host their 7th annual Bids & Bubbly event on September 17 at 6:00 PM at the Bibb Mill Event Center. This will be your chance to raise a glass and help veterans.

The signature event is more than an evening of great food, sparkling conversation, and incredible auction packages, it’s an opportunity for the community to come together and stand behind the veterans who have sacrificed so much for our freedom.

Every ticket purchased, every sponsorship secured, and every winning bid helps provide critical home repairs and accessibility modifications that allow local veterans to live safely and with dignity.

“The average project costs approximately $5,000, meaning we need to raise $170,000 to serve every veteran currently on our waiting list. While that need is significant, I know what our community can accomplish when we come together with a shared purpose,” said Josh McQuien, House of Heroes Chattahoochee Valley Executive Director.

McQuien says Bids & Bubbly is more than a fun evening, it’s an opportunity to make a lasting investment in the lives of those who have already given so much for our country. It also gives guests an opportunity to hear from keynote speaker, Retired Colonel David Moore.

While his missions changed throughout the years — from deploying to the Middle East to helping the Army get Bradley Fighting Vehicles to promoting agile software development — Moore relied on the same guiding principles and “boots on the ground” beliefs. His leadership precepts were inherited from his father, retired Lt. Gen. Hal Moore, whose service as a lieutenant colonel in Vietnam was depicted in the movie “We Were Soldiers.”

Among the “Dad’s Rules” that Moore likes to hand out to his team: There is always one more thing you can do to influence the situation in your favor. Three strikes and you’re not out. There’s nothing wrong when there’s nothing wrong — except that there’s nothing wrong.

“All of my dad’s rules, although oriented towards combat, apply in life. They don’t just apply to combat leadership, but they apply to any kind of leadership,” said Moore.
