EASTANOLLEE, Ga. — A significant law enforcement response was triggered Thursday at the Walmart in Eastanollee after two juveniles allegedly ran from the store yelling “bomb,” prompting a swift evacuation and investigation.
Authorities have since determined there was no credible threat and say the public was never in danger.
According to the Toccoa Police Department, officers responded after reports of a potential bomb threat caused immediate concern among shoppers and employees. The report prompted a large law enforcement response to secure the store and ensure everyone’s safety.
After securing the scene, investigators reviewed surveillance video and conducted a thorough search of the property. The investigation quickly determined the incident was an intentional hoax.
“Apparently two juveniles ran from the store while yelling ‘bomb.’ Video footage and a diligent search determined it was a prank. Both juveniles have been identified and are being questioned by investigators,” Toccoa Police Chief Bruce Carlisle said.
No injuries were reported, and authorities confirmed there was never an actual threat to the store or surrounding area.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing as officers determine what charges, if any, will be filed against the juveniles.
The Toccoa Police Department emphasized that incidents involving false threats are treated seriously because they create unnecessary fear, disrupt businesses, and divert emergency resources from real emergencies. Such pranks can carry severe legal consequences, even for minors.
