Phenix City Schools launch new Advanced Academy

It returns with a new name and innovative academic opportunities for middle school students in Phenix City Schools: The Advanced Academy. The academic opportunity is designed to provide motivated middle school students with rigorous coursework, advanced learning experiences, and expanded opportunities for future academic success.

The Advanced Academy reflects the district’s continued commitment to academic excellence and student achievement while aligning with updated state guidance and instructional expectations.

As part of the relaunch, Phenix City Schools has implemented updated program criteria and accountability measures to ensure instructional quality and student success. These include:

• Adherence to pacing guides reviewed in collaboration with Alabama State Department of Education subject area specialists
• Ensuring all course standards are taught with fidelity during instruction
• Ongoing communication and collaboration among school administrators, counselors, and teachers to support students in meeting graduation requirements
• Documentation of standards coverage through aligned assignments within the student information system
• Consistent implementation of admission and grading expectations for all participating students

The district’s acceleration model has already proven strong results for students. In Phenix City Schools’ most recent graduating class, more than 60 students earned 15 or more college credit hours before graduating from high school due to opportunities created through the district’s accelerated academic pathways.

The Advanced Academy is part of the district’s broader vision to expand access to advanced coursework, strengthen college and career readiness, and provide meaningful opportunities for students to excel academically at an earlier age.
