MOUNT AIRY — The Mount Airy Town Council is expected to consider extending the town’s subdivision moratorium and renewing its fire protection agreement with the city of Cornelia during its Monday meeting.
The council will meet at 7 p.m. June 1 at Town Hall.
The subdivision moratorium was first adopted in the fall of 2025 as Mount Airy officials grappled with rapid residential growth both within the town and across Habersham County. Town leaders at the time said the temporary pause on subdivisions would allow officials time to review development regulations and infrastructure concerns as growth pressures increased.
Council members are expected to vote Monday on whether to extend the moratorium.
The council will also consider an intergovernmental agreement with Cornelia for continued fire protection services. Mount Airy currently pays Cornelia $17,000 annually for fire coverage.
The agreement has long provided fire protection for Mount Airy, which does not operate its own fire department.
