GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Gainesville police are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect in a shooting that critically injured a man outside a Dollar General store on Limestone Parkway Monday night.
On Wednesday, investigators released a surveillance photo of the suspect. Police describe him as a bald, Black male standing between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing at least 200 pounds. The surveillance image shows the man in a dark tank top and blue shorts.
Robbery gone bad?
According to Gainesville Police Department Public Information Officer Kevin Holbrook, the preliminary investigation indicates the victim and another person were in the parking lot when they were approached by a third individual.
“They allege that a robbery ensued, and that is when the victim was shot,” Holbrook said.
The day after the shooting, Holbrook told Now Georgia, “We’re still trying to develop information in the case to determine exactly what happened, to determine if this was in fact a robbery.”
The suspect fled on foot after the shooting. Police searched the area using K-9 units and air support but were unable to locate the individual.
“We did take precautionary measures,” Holbrook said. “We had a number of officers in the area. We were able to begin again on tracks and utilize air support, but unfortunately the individual is still out there.”
