The Muscogee County Coroner has identified the victim of a deadly shooting in South Columbus Saturday evening. Demarcus Grimes was pronounced dead at Piedmont Midtown Hospital shortly after the incident. The 24-year-old was shot multiple times according to Coroner Buddy Bryan.
The Columbus Police Department responded to the scene on Shelby Street in the Benning Hills neighborhood of Columbus just after 7 pm August 22, 2026. It is unknown if police have a person of interest in the case or what prompted the shooting. The investigation is ongoing. This is a developing story.
