HOMER, Ga. — A Banks County woman was injured Thursday evening after a house fire prompted her to leave home and seek help, leading to a crash, officials said.

Units with Banks County Fire & Emergency Services responded around 5 p.m. on April 23 to the end of Chase Lane in Homer for a reported structure fire. When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from a single-family residence.

Officials said a woman was inside the home at the time of the fire. She left to get help but was involved in a crash while leaving the scene.

Emergency medical crews treated her at the scene before transporting her to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. She was listed in stable condition.

Firefighters quickly located the source of the fire and contained it to the room of origin. The home sustained moderate damage throughout, according to officials.

No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Banks County Fire Department.
