HARTWELL, Ga. — Two children were injured in separate boating incidents on Lake Hartwell during the Memorial Day holiday weekend, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
Game wardens responded to the latest incident Sunday evening, May 24, at the mouth of Gumlog Cove on Lake Hartwell.
Authorities said a 6-year-old girl injured her right hand while a vessel was beached on an island. Investigators said another juvenile pushed the child off the beached boat, and her hand became caught on the vessel door as she fell.
The child was transported to Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta for further treatment.
The incident came one day after another child was injured after being thrown from a boat on Lake Hartwell. She was taken to a hospital in Lavonia with non-life-threatening injuries.
